In 2001, Vega sued its investment partner, Golden Thunder Ltd. in Canada, because of a dispute on shares in cooperative joint venture, Yunnan Mineral Exploration Ltd. Vega had invested into this joint venture million dollars, however, Vega was not registered as the shareholder of the JV, so its investment in China was in danger. Therefore, Grant Atkins, president of Vega authorized Simon the power of attorney on behalf of Vega in legal action in China.
